It is very important to estimate the quantity of concrete and steel required for the project to prepare BOQ. This calculator is useful for calculation of Qunatity of Concrete and Steel in reinforced concrete beam, column, slab and footing. The approximate percentage of steel in a beam typically ranges between 1% to 2% of gross concrete volume. For heavy-duty or long-span beams this range may extend upto 2.5%. As per IS 456-2000 the steel reinforcement in a beam should not be more than 4% of gross cross-sectional area. For column approximate typical range is 0.8% to 6% (Ref: IS456-2000). Practically 2% to 2.5% is taken as safe percentage of steel for column. For slab approximate range can be taken as 0.7% to 1%. For footing the approximate safe range is 0.8% to 1%. Common practice for steel percentage is 1% for slab, 2% for beam, 2.5% for column and 0.8% for footing. This calculator has taken the density of steel as 7850 kg/m3. You have to collect market data according to your region for the cost of 1 kg of steel and 1 m3 of concrete. This calculator gives the volume and cost of concrete and steel.
