Profile of Distinguished Civil Engineer - McAdam

John Loudon McAdam ( 1756 - 1836)  Scottish engineer and road-builder.

He invented a new technique for road construction known as  "macadamisation",  which provides a smooth hard surface that is more durable and less muddy than soil-based tracks. He introduced tarmac (coal tar to bind the stones of road surface) for the road construction. The first tarmac road was laid in Paris in 1854

Modified forms of road metals are used nowadays.
