CE Calculators > Deflection & Slope Calculator for simply supported beam

Instruction for using deflection and slope calculator

Sign Covention:

All the distance should be measured with reference to origin taken at the extreme left end of the beam.

The load acting downward should be entered as negative whereas upward acting loads should be entered as positive.

Counter-clockwise moments and rotations are taken as positive whereas clock-wise moments and rotations are taken as negative.

Enter the values of distances in m, the loads in kN, Modulus of Elasticity (E) in GPa and Moment of inertia (I) in cm^4.

The calculated results will give the values of slope in radian (rad0 and deflection in mm at the section "x".

The deflection downward is negative whereas upward deflection is positive.

You can easily get the values of slope and defelction at any point just by changing the value of "x". These values can help you in plotting the ealstic curve (defelcted shape) of the beam

In case of combination of loads you can also use principle of superposition to find resultant deflection and slope.

The defelction calculator for point load can be used to determine the ordinates of influence line diagram for defelction just by taking load as 1 kN.
